"Best Buns in the Blue Ridge"

Fine German Angora and German Crossed Angora Wool

Currently there are no bunnies available at Greenberry House, and it is unlikely that I will be breeding again.  Time constraints are preventing me from doing the quality job that I would prefer with the rabbits.  There will always be plenty of wonderful angora fiber at Greenberry House, though!  I recommend Woolybuns Rabbitry in Connecticut and Avillion Farm in Apex, North Carolina, as responsible breeders that I know are currently active in breeding.  Other great breeders are listed in the links section below.

UPDATE:  As it has now been over two years since I have sold any rabbits for breeding purposes, I will no longer warranty any Greenberry House breeding stock.

Greenberry House is located just off the beautiful Blue Ridge Parkway in Southwestern Virginia.  The community, Meadows of Dan, is a charming village made up of lovely shops and good restaurants geared toward the tourist trade.  There are two wineries nearby and plenty of bed and breakfast type lodging in the area.  Spring, summer and fall are beautiful times to visit Greenberry House and enjoy the scenic wonders of the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Of first importance is the health of the animals; some of my seniors are in their seventh year and still producing wool and leading healthy lives.  Gentle temperaments and a willingness to cooperate with shearing is a necessary part of a German Angoras character, since they should be sheared every ninety days.  Fiber production is important as well; my pure Germans and crossed lines are consistent producers of quantities of good quality, non-matting wool with rich color.   Learn more about angora and German Angoras and their history here.

Although I no longer breed, production is important to me in my business.  My pure German lines are mostly from the "old" line imports, with a little of the newer lines added for genetic diversity.  I have been cautious about adding new genetics to the solid lines that I have been working with for so many years, and my rabbits have been impressive for their wool production and nice non-matting coats.

Fawn German Angora cross rabbit

Greenberry's Amber is a fawn German Cross and a retired breeder, but she still produces lots of gorgeous, silky wool for spinning.  Her color is rich and beautiful.

Chocolate German Angora cross rabbit

Woolybuns Snickers is a chocolate German Cross, and a wonderful fiber producer.  Her wool has gray and brown overtones and is lovely to spin.

Greenberry's Captain Jack is a favorite here because of his sweet personality and wonderful wool.  His rich color is a pleasure to spin and I often blend his wool with other fibers to bring out the color.

Pure German Angora rabbit

Greenberry's Misty is the daughter of Angel, also pure German and an easy doe to shear and work with.  After producing several lovely litters for me, she is now retired to grow lots of wool!

Pure German Angora rabbit

Greenberry's Zeke is a wonderful pure German buck that I chose to keep here for breeding.  Unfortunately during the hot summer of his first year one of his ears dropped, which disqualified him for me as a breeder.  But he produces lots of wonderful wool and has such a sunny disposition he is a pleasure to have around.

Blue German Angora cross rabbit

Greenberry's Blueberry Belle is one of the stars of the rabbitry.  She is a blue German Cross and from one of my favorite lines.  Like the others, she is a gentle rabbit but she is also very friendly, and loves attention.

Black German Angora cross rabbit

Greenberry's Cricket, a black German Cross, is also a favorite.  Both of his parents were from lines new to me, and I'm quite pleased with his temperament and wool production.

Black German Angora cross rabbit

Greenberry's Eliza, still another favorite (it could be I adore them all!).  Eliza is descended from my first lines here at Greenberry House, and is a black German Cross.  Her wool is beautiful and rich in black and gray overtones.

Black German Angora cross rabbit

Smudge is a nice black German Cross wooler that came here because he needed a home after his family situation changed.  He is a pleasant, cheerful rabbit that produces a nice fleece every quarter and is gentle for shearing.

Black German Angora cross rabbit

Greenberry's Thomas Delaplane, a black German Cross, is another friendly rabbit.  At feeding time every morning and evening he won't eat until he receives a pat on the head.  From one of my oldest lines here, Tommy is a wonderful wool producer and his wool is rich in black and silver hues.

Pure German Angora rabbit

Greenberry's Highland Mary is also from one of my early lines here at Greenberry House, and represents all the qualities I find important in a pure German Angora.  She is a wonderful mother and has consistently raised nice litters with no lost bunnies.  She has a wonderful non-matting coat that she has passed on to her bunnies and also has a placid, easy temperament wonderful for shearing.
